Premier League to abandon PPV and all games to be shown live
Premier League clubs agree to abandon the £14.95 PPV cost until at least next season, after a huge public outcry against the charges. All games will be shown at no extra charge across Sky, BT, Amazon Prime & the BBC, as they were after the initial restart earlier in the year.

Sky screened quite a few matches for free on the Pick channel at the end of last season.

As an experiment I thought that was a good compromise

I don't know anyone who's paid for this, or would pay for it.

I don't know why the PL just don't go down the NFL route and offer a season's pass for all games. I'm guessing it's because they have broadcasting deals active that they can't do that.

Premier League will ABANDON their unpopular pay-per-view matches from after the international break until at least the end of 2020 - and now must thrash out a deal with broadcasters for how games will be shown
Premier League clubs met today to find a resolution to the PPV 'PR disaster'
£14.95 charge for each game was seen as greedy by fans who have protested
Clubs have yielded to the pressure and the PPV model will be ditched
Fans boycotted matches and have raised more than £300,000 for local charities

I don't know why they just don't stick with the usual tv slots with the remaining games at 3pm on Saturday's?

More money for ads?

Re: Premier League to abandon PPV and all games to be shown live
The only logical reason to put each game out live is so that the fans that actually go to the games are not deprived of seeing their team play? but what is the overall % of those fans per capita? Why this need for every game to be live?

I'm looking forward to Hammers United attempting to take credit for this with their one badly written letter.

Something nice/fun for people to watch and a small bit of joy to the nation during a generally shit time?

Re: Premier League to abandon PPV and all games to be shown live
Wasnt there pressure from government to have games on free to air as part of the deal to allow football to continue?
If they are going to be on can they abandon this thing where every game has a different time.
One 3pm game each Saturday is shit and destroys the structure of the game.
I suppose one thing is it makes the idea of sacking Le Tiss, Phil Thompson etc understandable as there is nothing for them to watch at 3pm Saturday

Re: Premier League to abandon PPV and all games to be shown live
I’d like to see the old usual match time slots used but the Saturday 3pm games shown in a red zone style

Actually, with the speed of the game, that wouldn’t be practical.

Forget I said anything

"Free to air" is a loose concept if one needs subs for Sky, BT AND Amazon Prime! Bullshitometer.

Irks me, as a BT customer with BT sport, that I have to pay £14.95 to watch the game on Saturday evening.

I may join the ranks of the boycotters

No, this weekends games are the last lot, or at least at this price, etc.
